Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with an unbreakable bond to the earth’s magic. The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa’s best friend, makes her a Dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making her one of them. Rose and Lissa must navigate through this dangerous world, confront the temptation of forbidden romance, and never once let their guard down, lest the Strigoi make Lissa one of them forever.

Review

I cannot believe I hadn’t read these books sooner!! They were so fantastic in their own unique ways. Rose Hathaway is the female lead in this epic series and she is by far one of the strongest, loyal and at times infuriating characters I have ever read. She is very unique in the sense that she is not perfect and doesn’t delude readers into believe she is. She is flawed just like the rest of us. She’s very impulsive and always follows her heart. No matter how much trouble that might bring her.

This series is like a mix between twilight and harry potter. Which are also some of my all time favorites. There is something so refreshing about a story set in fantasy. Maybe that’s why I love this genre so much. It gives writers so much creative freedom in their stories that they’re able to create masterpieces such as this series without the constraints imposed by reality. That’s not to say that anyone could have written this story. Richelle is a true artist, her way of describing every characters nuances and traits was breathtaking to read. Something that I found very interesting in this story is how Richelle was able to keep the entire story is Rose’s perspective. It sounds like an easy task but its really not with all the simultaneous events going on in this story. It was very well done in my opinion.

Dimitri is the male lead and he is tall, handsome and has a dreamy Russian accent. Sigh….Dimitri is my favorite!!! I could write an entire book about his strength of character, how loyal he is to his work and the fierceness with which he takes control of difficult situations. He’s just amazing. The only thing I don’t like about him is that he’s not real lol. Like seriously I need to find myself a hot Russian guy hahaha. Dimitri tries very hard not to become a rule breaker at the beginning of this series but after unforeseen circumstances that force him to go off the path of righteousness he must find a way to forgive himself. Before that past attempts to take away what he holds dear to his heart.

Another thing that I loved so much about this series is the traveling that takes place. There are so many beautiful sights that I’ve always wanted to visit in these books. It sounds silly but I felt like I was there with the characters while they too experienced the new cities and took in their beauty. Now I really want to go to Russia. And even little towns here in the US that I’ve never even heard about are mentioned. I don’t know if I would go to those but eventually I would like to drop by Russia for sure. Maybe that’s where I’ll find my Dimitri hahaha

Although the ending of the series was complex, full of twists and turns. I still felt like there is going to be much more to this story than I had originally anticipated. It seems Bloodlines is the next series to read after vampire academy and I cannot wait to dive in. I’m sure it’s going to be equally as amazing as the rest of these books.

This series is a must read for any vampire/fantasy/young adult fans out there that are looking for their next epic read!!! I hope you love these characters and their story as much as I did!!!
